  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

  • 1 stick cold unsalted butter

  • ½ cup dried currants

  • 2 teaspoons caraway seeds

  • 1 Cup cold buttermilk

  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar

  • 2 tablespoons whole milk

  • ¼ teaspoon grated orange zest2

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, granulated sugar, and salt.

  2. Cut the butter into small pieces and incorporate into the flour mixture with your fingertips or a pastry cutter until the dough resembles coarse meal. Combine currants, caraway seeds, and buttermilk; whisk until just combined.

  3. Scoop 1/3 cup-sized mounds of dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet, 3 inches apart. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the bottoms are brown. Let cool completely on the sheet.
