Ray & Dorothy Packouz

packouzRay and Dorothy both grew up in Portland and have known each other for a long time. Dorothy was involved in a club with Ray’s older sister.

Both eventually entered into the military. Ray served in the Navy, going to the South Pacific during WWII. Dorothy received her degree in Physical Therapy, a very new field that was offered in few colleges. After graduating, she ended up in the Medical Corps in England.

They both returned to Portland after WWII and met up again when each attended the same wedding. Ray brought a date, but upon seeing Dorothy thought, “there’s a gal I want to get acquainted with”, and the rest is history. Their first date happened the next day and they married on Ray’s 25th birthday, 2 months later.

The couple settled in Portland, raising four children, all born within five years. They now have thirteen grandchildren, fifteen greatgrandchildren, with another one on the way.

Ray retired from the insurance industry and they began traveling regularly overseas. Ask them about one of their most memorable trips to Kenya and Tanzania. They joined a group of twelve people in a hot-air balloon, sailing over the Serengeti plains of Africa. What a wondrous sight!

Here at Courtyard, they love outings and enjoy the variety of activities. At their favorite activity, BINGO, they are glued to their table every Wednesday and Sunday night.

One observation of Ray’s before coming to Courtyard, their friends were becoming fewer. Now, new friendships increase every day.
