Falls

  • Every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall; every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall.

  • Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of fractures,

  • Falls are also the most common cause of older adult traumatic brain injuries, accounting for over 46% of fatal falls.

  • When admitted to the hospital for a fall, the older adults stay is twice as long as another older patient admitted for any other reason.
