Eat Healthy, Be Healthy

There is a reason to why people should have a healthy diet and maintain a healthy body weight. That’s why it’s called “healthy” diet and “healthy” body weight. Because it is healthy. And as I learned after reading about this topic, it can even affect our brain function.

Mice that were fed a diet rich in fat, sugar and cholesterol for nine months developed a preliminary stage of the morbid irregularities that form in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. The study results, published in a doctoral thesis from the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet (KI), give some indications of how this difficult to treat disease might one day be preventable.

Alzheimer’s Association has done thorough research that has proven that there is a strong correlation between Alzheimer’s and diabetes.

  • Diabetes raises the risk of heart disease and stroke, which hurt the heart and blood vessels. Damaged blood vessels in the brain may contribute to Alzheimer’s disease.
  • The brain depends on many different chemicals, which may be unbalanced by too much insulin. Some of these changes may help trigger Alzheimer’s disease.
  • High blood sugar causes inflammation. This may damage brain cells and help Alzheimer’s to develop.

Be smart and outsmart Alzheimer’s, eat healthy, exercise regularly, and be happy.

Yours truly,
Heidi
